Port Houston appoints new commissioner

On 19 September, the Pasadena City Council chose Alan A. Robb as Port Commissioner of the Port of Houston Authority to serve on behalf of the city starting October 2023. Roy D. Mease, the current commissioner, will step down at the end of the month.

Robb is currently the President of the AFL-CIO’s ILA South Atlantic and Gulf Coast District. The district serves ILA members from North Carolina to Florida on the Atlantic Coast and from Florida to Texas on the Gulf Coast.

Also, Robb has been the ILA’s Assistant General Organizer since 2015, the ILA’s National Educational Director since 2013, and a member of the ILA’s Civil Rights Committee for the previous eleven years.

“I am deeply honoured to have been bestowed this privilege to represent the best interests of the Houston Ship Channel on behalf of Pasadena, labour, industry, and the communities we serve,” stated Alan A. Robb.

Moreover, Robb, a native of Houston, began working as an ILA longshoreman in 1976 and has served on the boards of the Houston East End Chamber of Commerce, the Houston Maritime Museum, Matrix Energy, and the Maritime Workers Emergency Relief Fund.

He further added, “I extend my sincerest appreciation to Pasadena Mayor Jeff Wagner and members of the City Council for this appointment, and I look forward to working with Chairman Ric Campo and the other Port Commissioners as we work together for the greater good.”
