Since it was commissioned on March 2 this year, the port of Kribi has already welcomed 190 ships of various sizes. According to the port authority, 50 destinations (departures and arrivals) are covered by the port. Main departure points include China, Vietnam, the USA, France, the Netherlands and Italy, while arrival countries include China, Germany, France, Turkey, and South Africa.
Transshipment traffic increased, motivated by the draught and the geographical position of the Autonomous Port of Kribi, as well as the infrastructure quality, the competitiveness of tariffs and the quality of services, the port authority said. This traffic surged from 3,441 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent) in March to some 70,000 TEU on 30 September 2018, thus underpinning the strategic role of the Port of Kribi for shipping lines.
Local traffic is also growing rapidly from 146 TEU in March 2018 to 3,979 TEU on 30 September 2018. To date, nearly 90,000 TEUs have been processed by the container terminal operator.
