The Scottish Government and Subsea7 have awarded the Port of Aberdeen approximately US$185,000 grant to explore the viability of storing hydrogen underwater at the new Aberdeen South Harbour.
The project ‘H2Shore – Hydrogen coastal storage and distribution’ will perform extensive technical evaluations to establish the most effective technological method and an acceptable offshore location. In addition, the project will provide an outline business case.
Xodus, an energy consulting business, has been selected to review the distribution and bunkering requirements, with an emphasis on equipment, methods, and operating procedures.
In addition, the Hydrogen Innovation Scheme, an initiative aimed at stimulating innovation in renewable hydrogen generation, storage, and delivery, has funded 32 projects, including this one.
