The Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA) has integrated AllRead’s Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software into its infrastructure system to enhance traceability at 22 road and two railway checkpoints.
Initiated in 2020 under APBA’s “Journey of Innovation” programme, this collaboration between APBA and AllRead aims to optimise real-time traffic monitoring and supervision without disrupting the flow of vehicles and goods at the Spanish port.
AllRead’s computer vision solution leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) algorithms to process images from surveillance cameras, extracting critical information such as wagon and container numbers, license plates, and vehicle types. This data is then seamlessly integrated into the port’s information management system.
The Port of Algeciras handles a diverse range of vehicles and goods, including those from the Maghreb region, which creates challenges in vehicle and goods identification. The new system aims to achieve automatic, real-time identification of license plates for both light and heavy vehicles, including those from Europe and Morocco, as well as trailers, maritime containers, and railroad wagons.
Specifically, the monitored accesses include:
- North and South Access points (11 control points)
- Embarkation and disembarkation areas for Ceuta and Tangier (4 control points)
- Entry and exit points for trains at the “Isla Verde” rail-port terminal (2 control points)
