Port of Belfast extends digital connections

Northern Ireland’s major port and logistics hub in Belfast is looking to improve its digital outlook offering customers greater connectivity expanding the digital services at the port which handles over 500,000 freight vehicles annually on ferries as well as container ships.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]Belfast has signed an agreement with tech company SRO Solutions that will double the number of IBM Maximo asset management software licences available at the port.

“SRO, which has helped lead IBM’s expansion into the maritime and offshore industries, began working with Belfast Harbour in 2018, implementing Maximo to store information about the port’s assets and manage the maintenance of its equipment,” said a company statement.

The system offers technicians a link through mobile devices describing work orders, which, once work is completed, can be updated in real time.

“The scale of Belfast Harbour’s operation means there is great scope for it to use Maximo far more extensively across the organisation. This agreement will give their Information Systems team the ability to harness the full power of Maximo,” said a Belfast Port comment.

Trevor Anderson, director of infrastructure and business transformation at Belfast Harbour, added: “Centralising data through Maximo and enabling access to real-time information opens up numerous time and cost-saving opportunities.”
