The Port of Gdansk Authority is taking the lead in funding the cleaning of the roads and pavements, as well as the associated infrastructure, road signs, and barriers leading to the port terminals.
It has also commissioned the installation of additional truck buffer points. All of this is done to reduce the discomfort of Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV) traffic.
The initial step of cleaning up the road infrastructure leading to Gdansk Port has recently been finished. The second stage is scheduled to begin in early May and will run until 15 July.
Ku Ujściu, Trasa Sucharskiego, Przetoczna, the tunnel beneath Martwa Wisa and the beginning of Payskiego Street in Poland will be cleaned. In total, this covers an area of over 151,000 m².
ZMPG maintains contact with local authorities in order to help municipal services in decreasing the problem of street pollution along port terminal access roads.
“We have had a meeting with the authorities of the city of Gdańsk, who understand the requirements of the current geopolitical situation and the need to ensure the energy security of the country. This is why we have been able to agree on a course of action. We are aware that increased truck traffic affects the road capacity and pollution of the port’s access infrastructure. This is why we are coming up with an initiative to help clean the areas around the port in order to minimise the related nuisance,” stated Kamil Tarczewski, deputy CEO for Infrastructure at Port of Gdańsk Authority SA.
