Port of Liverpool updates its Liebherr STS equipment

Peel Ports Group has ordered two new ship to shore (STS) container cranes from Liebherr to equip the Port of Liverpool, which already operates five STS from the German-Swiss manufacturer.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The new cranes will replace two older units, which will be relocated to Peel Ports’ Greenock Ocean Terminal at Clydeport.

The new cranes have an outreach and lift height of 40m, a backreach of 18m, a span of 16.785m and a safe working load of 40 tonnes under a single lift spreader.

According to a statement, the Liebherr crane design utilises high tensile steel and a lattice boom and beam, resulting in a lighter crane with reduced wheel loads, a key consideration due to the narrow span and quay structure at the Port of Liverpool.

Additionally, the new equipment will undergo trial assembly and testing of individual drives before shipping, to allow for a rapid and straightforward commissioning, with the two cranes ready for operation early in 2022, said Peel Ports.
