Port of Long Beach reports busiest January ever

After a record-breaking year in 2021, the Port of Long Beach (POLB) has set a new monthly record of 800,943 TEU in January, surpassing by 4.8% the previous record set in January 2020.

During the last month, POLB’s imports completed 389,334 TEU, while exports reached 123,060 TEU, which translates to increases of almost 7% and 6%, respectively. At the same time, empty containers that moved through the Californian port grew by 1.8% to 288,550 TEU.

“Our record-breaking successes rely on the waterfront workers who quickly process goods moving through the Port,” said Long Beach harbour commission president, Steven Neal, who added that the port anticipates that this momentum will continue through 2022.

“Terminal capacity is finally opening up,” noted Port of Long Beach executive director, Mario Cordero. “We expect to remain moderately busy into the spring as we make significant progress to clear the docks and process the backlog of vessels waiting off shore,” he added.
