Port of Melbourne’s total container throughput (full and empty) reached 246,542 TEU in April, translating to a 3.9% decrease from April 2022. Additionally,hile box volumes were down 0.5% for the period January-April 2023, compared with the same months last year.
Furthermore, full overseas imports were down 4.8% in April 2022, with furniture, miscellaneous manufactures, non-electrical machinery, domestic appliances, clothes, and toys & sporting goods all falling short of last year’s levels.
Full foreign exports were down 3.4% year on year in April 2022, with various manufactures, pulp & wastepaper, paperboard, and packaged beef all dropping below last year’s levels.
In addition, overall empty container movements were 5% lower than in April 2022.
