In July 2024, the Port of Melbourne reported a rise in total container throughput compared to July 2023, reaching 282,000 TEU.
Full container imports (excluding Bass Strait) saw a 2.8% increase, with higher volumes of furniture, domestic appliances, and clothing compared to the previous year.
Similarly, full container exports (excluding Bass Strait) also experienced a 14.1% growth, with timber, hay, chaff & fodder, cotton, and meats exceeding last year’s volumes.
However, total empty container movements were lower in July 2024 compared to the same period last year.
