The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) has reported that the US port has registered the busiest February in its history, by moving 759,248 TEU.
This performance translates to a container throughput increase of 21.5% over the previous February, as well as a rise of almost 30% compared to the pre-pandemic February of 2019.
Furthermore, imports at the second-busiest port in the US reached 334,176 TEU in February, recording an increase of 15.4% year-on-year, while exports also rose by 9.6% from the previous year to 103,782 TEU.
During the same month, a total of 53,977 containers moved through the US East Coast port via rail, representing an increase of 9% compared to February 2021.
These figures brought the total for the year (January and February) to 1,524,298 TEU, according to PANYNJ’s data.
