Port of NY & NJ eyes available warehouse space in case of box bottlenecks

The Port of New York and New Jersey has conducted a survey amongst warehouse operators to identify available warehousing in the region in order to address potential container bottlenecks at its marine terminals due to the Covid-19 crisis.

In an effort to amass a list of facilities with additional storage capacity that range from traditional warehouse space and pallet positions to yard space and parking, the port is preparing to face potential supply chain disruptions. The concern at the Port of NY & NJ is that import volumes will begin to rebound as shippers are faced with warehouse closures or storage constraints.

The port has published a form (a file, entitled “Available Warehouse Space”, available for download here) that businesses can use to add their information to the list of warehouse options. The deadline for the businesses to submit information to Port Efficiency Manager, Amanda Valdes, is 15 May 2020.
