Koos Timmermans was appointed as a Commissioner of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, after being recommended by the Supervisory Board.
The new commissioner of the busiest European container port took over duties on 1 October with a four-year contract that will last until 1 October 2025.
Timmermans is also a member of the Supervisory Board at the Dutch postal company PostNL and the FMO bank.
Previously, he has operated at the highest management level within the global financial institution ING Group for more than twelve years and he has also served as vice-chairman of ING Bank.
In addition to his knowledge of the financial sector, Timmermans has experience in fields of financing, structuring, risk management and international alliances, according to the announcement.
Miriam Maes, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Port of Rotterdam Authority, commented, “his experience is of great added value for the complex projects and investments of the Port of Rotterdam Authority for the further development of the port complex, especially in the context of the energy transition.”
“The challenges facing the port in the fields of energy transition and digitisation are large and complex,” stated Timmermans, who went on to point out that he is honoured to contribute to this as a commissioner of the Port of Rotterdam Authority.
