The Brasilian Port of Santos has announced a container handling record of 2.4 million TEU during the first half of the year, presenting an increase of 18.5% over the corresponding period of 2020.
During the same period, total cargo volumes were also higher than ever, with an increase of 7.9% from the previous record in the H1 of 2020, totalling 76.3 tons.
Additionally, the movement accumulated in the year registered a volume of shipments of 55.3 million tons, 7.3% above the first half of 2020.
“The numbers show that the Port of Santos is efficiently meeting the recovery of the economy, both in agribusiness and in industry, whose cargoes have been showing strong growth,” said the Operations Director of the Santos Port Authority (SPA), Marcelo Ribeiro, who pointed out that “this is the result of the prioritisation that management gives to guaranteeing the infrastructure and the constant improvements of operational processes.”
In the meantime, the Brasilian Port maintained its share in the country’s trade chain, with an accumulated share of 27.9%.
