Port of Tanjung Pelepas orders 58 new electrified RTG cranes

Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), a joint venture between MMC Group and APM Terminals, has signed an agreement with Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industry (ZPMC) to acquire 58 eco-efficient electrified rubber-tyred gantry (e-RTG) cranes.

PTP CEO Mark Hardiman and ZPMC Vice President Celilia Shen Qiu Yuan signed the agreement on 3 February 2025.

PTP Chairman Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh emphasized that this investment aligns with PTP’s expansion strategy, enhancing efficiency and sustainability in Malaysia’s key transshipment hub.

Hardiman highlighted that the new cranes will optimize peak demand management, improve cargo handling, and support faster vessel turnaround times. Additionally, the automation-ready cranes contribute to PTP’s decarbonization and ESG commitments.

Shen reaffirmed ZPMC’s dedication to delivering innovative and reliable port equipment, with deliveries set to occur in five batches between March and July 2026.
