Port of Tanjung Pelepas sets record with over 1.1 million TEUs in July

In July, Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), operated by MMC Group and APM Terminals, has set a new milestone by handling 1,115,181 TEUs in a single month.

This achievement surpasses the port’s previous record of 1,077,747 TEUs set in May this year.

“Our ability to achieve this record-breaking performance without any congestion solidifies PTP’s role as an indispensable link in the global supply chains,” stated Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, PTP Chairman, conveying his deep satisfaction with reaching this milestone despite the challenging global shipping environment.

“PTP’s pursuit of sustainable growth is demonstrated through our significant emphasis on port asset upgrades and infrastructure enhancements. These efforts align closely with our
environmental, social and governance (ESG) agenda, safety policies, and digitalisation strategy. This approach has enabled PTP to navigate global congestion challenges effectively while allowing for continued improvements and expansions,” explained Mark Hardiman, PTP’s Chief Executive Officer.

“This achievement is particularly noteworthy in light of PTP’s sustained performance of handling over one million TEUs for three consecutive months since May this year. None of this would be possible without the support of our customers, shareholders, and, most importantly, our dedicated staff who should take pride in what they have achieved,” added Hardiman.

The port recently received the Industry Excellence Award for the Services Sector and the BMCC Business Excellence Award for Outstanding ESG.

Additionally, PTP was ranked as the fifth most efficient container port globally by The World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence in the latest Container Port Performance Index 2023.
