The Port of Tokyo has processed 2,151,234 TEU during the first eight months of 2021, which translates to around 5% increase from the corresponding period of the previous year, according to Japan International Freight Forwarders Association (JIFFA).
Regarding the January-August period, exports accounted for 621,927TEU and imports for 1,529,307TEU, representing a growth of 10.8% and of 2.7%, respectively. At the same time, empties recorded a decline of 12.2% year-on-year, totalling 687,817TEU.
Meanwhile, the major Japanese port recorded a year-on-year growth of 9% in August, handling 271,000TEU. In the eighth month of the yeat, imports rose by 7.7% compared to last year’s August, completing 76,701TEU, while, according to JIFFA, exports totalled 194,303TEU, which translates to a year-on-year increase of 9.6%.
In contrast, empty containers saw a decline of 10.2% during August with 87,353TEU in total.
