The Port of Trelleborg received a Konecranes intermodal reach stacker for trailer and container handling at its intermodal terminal on the southern coast of Sweden last month.
The new reach stacker, which will replace an older machine, is a Konecranes SMV 4538 CCX4, a sturdy lifting machine that can securely stack 45 tonnes in the first row up to four containers high, according to the statement.
Furthermore, despite having a lengthy wheelbase of 7,500 mm for additional stability, it is highly manoeuvrable, and a unique combi spreader can manage completely laden containers from the top and trailers to the bottom across multiple tracks. The vehicle has a roomy, ergonomic OPTIMA interior with simple controls and perfect visibility.
“Intermodal traffic has been growing strongly in recent years, so it’s important for us to maintain our position as a leading intermodal hub,” stated Thomas Ter-Borch, port operations manager at Port of Trelleborg, which ranks second in terms of throughput tonnage among the country’s five main ports.
It is also the biggest railway port on the Baltic Sea and the most environmentally friendly port in the area, while it is now using two intermodal reach stackers to provide quick, dependable, and environmentally friendly multimodal services between ship and rail.
“The fact that Port of Trelleborg chose a Konecranes reach stacker again highlights the quality of our products and the excellent service and business relationship provided by our long-term local distributor N.C. Nielsen,” noted Daniel Sjöstrand, sales support manager of Lift Trucks at Konecranes.
