Port Authority of Valencia (PAV) has reported 5,052,272 TEUs in 2022, a decline of 9.85% compared with box volumes in the previous year.
At the same time, 79,365,321 tonnes of goods were transported via the Spanish port, translating to a 6.92% drop year-on-year.
Transit containers decreased by 16.91% in the port of Valencia in 2022 falling to 2,059,665 units, while the number of empty boxes declined by 5.54%.
Despite the drop in total and container traffic, Valenciaport retains its 40% share of import/export traffic in the Spanish port system.
According to the PAV’s Statistical Bulletin, the United States generated the most overall traffic with a 12% year-on-year reduction and a total of 6,073,718 tonnes. However, China leads in container traffic with 530,902 TEUs (-13.32%), followed by the US with 487,828 (-8.18%) and Turkey with 250,731 (-21.29%).
The United Kingdom was the most dynamic country in 2022, with a 34.16% growth in total products and a 25.14% increase in container volumes. Nigeria (+39.64%), Belgium (+34.11%), and the Netherlands (13%) also increased significantly their trade volumes with Valencia port in 2022.
