Portwise launches automation consulting business line

Portwise, a renowned consultancy and simulation firm specializing in logistics solutions for ports, terminals, and warehouses, announced the launch of its automation consulting business line.

The new business line aims to aid terminal operators in transforming design ideas into seamlessly operational and highly efficient automated terminals. This strategic expansion of Portwise’s services underscores its dedication to providing holistic assistance beyond the initial design stages and perfectly aligns with its mission to underscore the significance of automation in ensuring the resilience of terminal logistics for the future.

“We see that technology suppliers often focus on the technical feasibility. The critical part is making it work together as a whole. With our Automation Consulting business line, we focus on automation projects where systems, people and equipment get equally as much attention, as we believe that’s fundamental to ensure high-performing terminal operations,” stated Kaj de Groot, director of Automation Projects.

According to the company’s statement, in the contemporary landscape, many container terminals still rely on manual operations. However, the imperative for automation has intensified owing to environmental concerns, shortages in labour, and the imperative for enhanced efficiency and maximized capacity utilization.

With the introduction of this new business line, Portwise is poised to cater to the global demands of port operators by assisting them in pivotal decision-making processes related to automation implementation. This involves the selection of appropriate technologies, orchestrating automation projects, and establishing requisite operational frameworks post-automation. The overarching goal is to mitigate project risks, circumvent delays, and prevent budgetary overruns.

Within Portwise’s terminal automation division, the firm developed a systematic approach to comprehensively address all relevant factors for automating both existing (brownfield) and new (greenfield) container terminals. With the introduction of the automation consulting business line, Portwise extends its offerings beyond design and feasibility assessments. The firm’s services now encompass tender support and evaluation, risk mitigation, rollout strategies, testing, implementation, change management, and performance optimisation.
