The 8,100TEU container ship MOL Charisma has suffered an engine failure on 11 December in the Gulf of Siam, while it was sailing from Singapore to the Port of Laem Chabang in Thailand.
The next day, the boxship anchored in the Gulf of Siam, according to a Maritime Bulletin report, which added that tugs contracted to tow the vessel back to Singapore.
“The vessel is expected to return to Singapore for further inspection and necessary repairs,” confirmed Hapag-Lloyd, which noted they are waiting for the vessel owner’s assessment of the vessel’s condition.
Back in September 2020, the post panamax ship, which is now deployed on THE Alliance’s East Coast Loop 5 (EC5) service, experienced a cargo fire off Sri Lanka.
