Unions and social stakeholders threaten to strike in Algeciras and APM Terminals Algeciras management team is working to reach an agreement with them, according to AP Moller Maersk’s announcement.
If the two parties do not come into agreement, the strike would take place from 19 November, two hours per shift (six hours in total). The strike would be limited to APM Terminals Algeciras personnel and not to stevedores, which will continue to work normally, according to a Maersk statement.
The Danish shipping company is not expecting a great impact in terms of operations, while it plans to increase the deployment of machinery and equipment, in case of strike, in order to alleviate its effects.
In the meantime, the Port of Algeciras said in its latest announcement that it remains open and operational despite the outbreak of the second wave of Covid-19. The port authority confirmed that accesses to the Spanish port Algeciras are open, both container terminals APM Terminals Algeciras and TTI Algeciras are fully operational, while Roro traffic for goods is also fully operational.
