The Prince Rupert Port Authority (PRPA) has announced updates to its Board of Directors. The appointment of Hilary Cassady has been confirmed by Pablo Rodriguez, Minister of Transport for the Government of Canada.
Additionally, Lee Brain has been confirmed for the appointment by the City of Prince Rupert and the District of Port Edward.
Moreover, Cassady joins the board as a User Appointee, selected in consultation with the Port User Nominating Committee. With a wealth of experience in corporate leadership, she has held executive and senior positions at Danone in Asia and Europe, as well as Bentall Kennedy and QuadReal Property Group in Canada.
Brain, appointed by the City of Prince Rupert and the District of Port Edward, serves as a Municipal Appointee. With a notable background as the former Mayor of the City of Prince Rupert for two consecutive terms, he now brings his expertise to the board. Additionally, Brain is engaged in roles as a facilitator, mediator, and specialist in community engagement.
“On behalf of our staff, I congratulate and welcome Hilary and Lee. Both were born and raised in Prince Rupert, and each brings unique experience and skills to PRPA’s Board of Directors as we continue to activate the port’s ambitious growth plan to strengthen its role as an economic engine for the community, region, and all of Canada,” stated Shaun Stevenson, president and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority.
Also, Brain is set to succeed John Farrell, whose term on the Board concludes at the end of April 2024. Initially appointed by the City of Prince Rupert and District of Port Edward in 2015, Farrell held the position of Chair for the Board’s Human Resources and Compensation Committee.
“We extend our gratitude to John for his commitment to the Board of Directors, particularly during a period of unprecedented development and growth at the Port of Prince Rupert,” added Stevenson.
The Board of Directors of the Prince Rupert Port Authority consists of seven members. Among them, three are appointed directly by each level of government—municipal, provincial, and federal—while the remaining members are appointed by the federal government in coordination with the Port User Nominating Committee. Board members serve for a term of up to three years, with a maximum tenure of three terms.
