PSA breaks container record with more than 90 million TEU in 2021

PSA International has achieved a record in its container throughput performance in 2021, handling 91.5 million TEU at its terminals around the world.

The global port operator saw increased traffic of 5.6% over 2020 in its ports and terminals, with flagship PSA Singapore contributing a record of 37.2 million TEU, which translates to a year-on-year rise of 1.6%.

Tan Chong Meng, Group CEO of PSA, thanked the worldwide staff of PSA for delivering this strong performance, as well as its customers, partners and stakeholders “for their continued support and endorsement.”

He also issued that despite the multiple hurdles posed by the global pandemic, PSA contributed to keeping supply chains safe and open for its customers, partners and stakeholders worldwide.

Referring to 2022, PSA’s boss estimated that supply chain issues will remain but he also noted that there are opportunities in the crisis. “Our continued relevance will depend on our ability to seize them,” he pointed out.

“PSA will continue to seek win-win partnerships and innovate beyond port operations to provide more efficient and resilient cargo solutions that benefit the greater supply chain ecosystem and catalyse the shift towards sustainable trade,” concluded Meng.
