PSA Sines orders six Konecranes automated container cranes

PSA Sines, the Portuguese subsidiary of PSA International, will enter the Automated Rubber-Tired Gantry (aRTG) market for the first time with the acquisition of six electric-powered aRTGs from Konecranes.

The new cranes will be delivered in the first quarter of 2024.

The completely automated cranes are expected to increase PSA Sines’ efficiency while also supporting the terminal’s growth plans.

After the delivery of the new equipment, the terminal’s annual cargo-handling capability will nearly double from 2.3 to 4.1 million TEUs.

The new aRTGs will be able to load up to five boxes, as opposed to only three with straddle carriers.

“This equipment is PSA Sines’ first venture into automated yard equipment,” stated Balachandran Krishnamurthi, director (Projects) at PSA Sines.
