Aiming at net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, PSA Singapore and Pacific International Lines (PIL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly create sustainable solutions to reduce carbon emissions and enhance efficiency in shipping operations.
This partnership is expected to support the creation of environmentally friendly shipping routes for PIL’s container shipments, focussing on minimising carbon emissions. Beyond the recent agreement, both parties are also cooperating on initiatives to decrease GHG emissions, such as using reclaimed refrigerants and adopting PSA’s OptEVoyage, a digital solution designed to enable vessels to arrive at the port precisely when needed, thereby achieving savings on fuel and reducing carbon emissions.
Earlier, in April 2022, PIL successfully conducted a biofuel trial using a blend of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) and very low sulfur fuel oil (VLSFO). Encouraged by the results, PIL intends to trial another blend of biofuel on its Singapore Qinzhou Shuttle (SQS) service as part of this MoU. This trial will involve a blend of 24% FAME with VLSFO.
