RBS enhances operating system at Klaipedos Smelte Terminal

Realtime Business Solutions (RBS) has unveiled plans for a Terminal Operating System (TOS) enhancement at the Klaipedos Smelte container terminal in Lithuania.

Klaipedos Smelte has announced its decision to upgrade from the current TOPS Advanced system provided by RBS to the more advanced TOPS Expert solution from the same supplier.

According to a statement, the TOPS Expert terminal operating system offers a wide range of terminal management features, including optimized operations, yard and vessel management, berth allocation, crane assignment, container handling equipment oversight, gate management, reporting, financial system integration, and gate operations.

Furthermore, the Smelte terminal aims to leverage new TOPS Expert services such as autonomous vessel planning and enhanced equipment pooling to maximize operational efficiency. Further enhancements will be implemented as part of the upgrade initiative.

Last year, TOPS Expert’s web-based equipment control system was introduced in a hybrid setup alongside the existing TOPS Advanced EC, enabling yard personnel to seamlessly utilize both systems concurrently. This approach has minimized migration risks and training needs for the primary migration project.

After its commissioning, the terminal plans to trial RBS’s latest TOPX Intelligent 3D module, featuring innovative Human Super Intelligence technology that integrates a digital counterpart directly into the TOS.

“We have been satisfied with the functioning of TOPS and the customer-oriented collaboration with the RBS team for many years. With the new system, we are technologically well prepared for our further growth and new technologies. The migration is taking place step by step. Our team is making utmost efforts to be fully prepared for the new system,” stated Linas Miceika, Operations Director of RBS.
