Real-time container tracking service launches at APM Terminals Valencia

APM Terminals has implemented a container tracking solution in the Port of Valencia in Spain.

The service, called Track & Trace, enables customers to access real-time data on their containers, check live vessel schedules and cut-off times, save containers to a Container Watchlist and set up email alerts, according to APM Terminals.

Maersk-owned port operator said that customers can track import and export containers via www.apmterminals.com/valencia using the container number, the booking number provided by the shipping company, or the bill of lading number.

Additionally, the data include the vessel’s estimated arrival time, discharge time, container status, availability for pickup, container details and when the box left the terminal.

Live vessel schedules are also provided with cargo cut-off times by container type and shipping line and current estimated arrival and departure times.

In case the customer wishes to track a larger volume of containers, they will be prompted to save containers to a personal Container Watchlist, according to a statement.

“This saves customers time and effort, continually copying and pasting their containers into the search to retrieve the latest status, ” noted María Gracia, chief commercial officer of APM Terminals Spain Gateways.

Furthermore, from the Container Watchlist page, customers can set up email alerts, which provide a snapshot of their Container Watchlist at a specific point in time. At the same time, they have the possibility to choose which days they would like to receive notifications and whether they will receive them once or twice a day at specified times.

APM Terminals said that customer tracking of large container volumes can view real-time API data flow directly into their Transport Management System.

“We acknowledge that in the past customers needed to have multiple accounts for different systems at different terminals, in order to do business with us,” said María Gracia, adding, “Going forward, our goal is to provide access to all of our services from one place, and with just one account.”
