Regional Container Lines names two new boxships in Japan

Regional Container Lines (RCL) named its two latest vessels, Ussama Bhum and Varanya Bhum, in a ceremony at the Japanese Hiroshima Shipyard on 27 August.

The new vessels each boasting a capacity of 12,000 TEUs were constructed by Imabari Shipbuilding Co. Ltd. and are quipped with the latest advancements in maritime technology.

Ussama Bhum symbolises “Land of Genial” and Varanya Bhum stands for “Land of Brilliant”. The first vessel was delivered and set sail on its inaugural voyage, successfully entering service on RCL’s Middle East route (RCG). Varanya Bhum is expected to be delivered in December.

Dr. Jamlong Atikul, Chairman of RCL’s Board of Directors, underscored the strategic importance of these new additions to the company’s fleet. He also expressed his pride in RCL’s ongoing fleet expansion, stating “the naming of Ussama Bhum and Varanya Bhum represents not just the growth of our fleet but also the ongoing evolution of our services.”

Atikul went on to point out, “These vessels will strengthen our capabilities, ensuring that we continue to meet the demands of our global clientele with the utmost efficiency and sustainability.”
