Requirements for import & exports at Turkish ports

Turkish Customs is executing strictly hereunder requirements. Therefore, pay your special attention to the requirements for all inbound or transshipment cargoes to/via Turkish ports.

HS code and commodity description

For the shipment which will be discharged on Turkish port, including Turkey import cargo and the cargo transship via Turkey, H.S. code and commodity description are mandatory and must follow below rule.

Please be informed that the shipment will not be able to discharge on Turkey if the HS code and VAT number is missing or incorrect.

Full description of commodity /commodities is mandatory and must be indicated clearly item by item.

First 6 digit of Harmonized code /codes of above commodities is mandatory and must be indicated item by item, H.S. code “000000” is not accepted by Turkish Customs.

VAT number

VAT number for consignee and notify party will be mandatory for Turkish import shipment.

Please also follow below VAT number requirement of Turkish Customs:

1. VAT numbers is ony consist of numbers. Besides, “ – , . “  or letters is not used for Turkish customers.

2. If consignee is a forwarding agent, VAT number should be belong to this forwarding agent, not actual consignee.

3. If consignee is a PERSON not a company, passport number or T.C. ID (Turkish Identification Number) is accepted.

4. If the Consignee you provide is “To order of Bank”, please provide the Bank’s VAT number.

5. If the Consignee you provide is “To order of…” or “To order”, please provide the VAT number of Notify party.

“We would appreciate your attention on the above requirements, and providing the appropriate consignment and VAT information in Shipping Instruction. In case any Customs declaration problem as the result of improper cargo information from customer side, YM withhold us from all sorts of liability/consequences if there is any delay or extra cost imposed by the Authority or as demurrage during cargo delivery/transshipment”, Yang Ming said in its press release.
