Robert Mærsk Uggla to lead Maersk as the new company chair

Robert Mærsk Uggla will be the new chair of A.P. Moller – Maersk’s board of directors, after the company’s annual general meeting on 15 March, while Marc Engel will be nominated as the new vice-chair.

Robert Mærsk Uggla is the great-great-grandson of Peter Mærsk Møller, who founded the Danish shipping giant 118 years ago. He has been the chief executive officer of A.P. Moller Holding since 2016, leading the group’s renewal and investments.

“I am very humbled to accept the nomination as chair of the company,” said Robert Mærsk Uggla, adding, “We initiated the restructuring and renewal of A.P. Moller – Maersk in 2016 and have come a long way on many fronts.”

Furthermore, Marc Engel will be the new vice-chair, having served on the company’s board of directors since 2019, while he also sits on the board’s transformation & innovation committee. He is the outgoing chief supply chain officer of Unilever, holding extensive executive experience in global operations and supply chains, logistics, procurement and sustainability.

Regarding the current chairman Jim Hagemann Snabe and vice-chairman Ane Maersk Mc-Kinney Uggla, they will not stand for re-election to A.P. Moller – Maersk’s board of directors at the company’s annual general meeting, according to a statement.

Snabe, who has served on the company’s board since 2016 and has been chairman since 2017, will continue as an advisor to the new chair.

“It has been a privilege to be part of the reinvention of this unique company,” pointed out Snabe, who went on to add, “I look forward to contributing to the company’s continued development in the role of advisor to Robert and the rest of the board.”

“After three decades on the board, it is time for me to pass on the responsibility to Robert, who with his seven years on the board of directors has been a driving force in the development of A.P. Moller – Maersk,” stated Ane Mærsk Mc-Kinney Uggla.
