Romania’s OMV Petrom launched sales of VLSFO when its Petrobrazi refinery reopened following a two year €3 (US$3.25) million upgrade.
The company supplied its first vessel with low sulphur fuel at the end of last year and will reduce the country’s reliance on imported fuels.
“Up until the launch of this product, the Romanian market was supplied exclusively by imports. From now on, at the Petrobrazi refinery, at least 70,000 tonnes of marine fuel oil with low sulphur content can be produced annually, subject to production optimisation to meet demand,” said the company.
Meanwhile, oil prices have stagnated with growing fears over the global economy and, in particular exports from China.
