Rotterdam arrangement for port tariffs increase extended

The Port of Rotterdam Authority has announced that its three-year arrangement on port tariff increases with the relevant market parties, represented by Deltalinqs and VRC, will be extended by one year.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]As has been the case from 2018 to 2020, port tariffs will be increased by 1% in 2021 for both sea-going and inland shipping. “The parties are committed to continuing the same moderate rate of increase in tariffs in these extraordinary times,” according to a statement.

The Port Authority said it upholds specific measures, such as transhipment discounts for containers, which were included in the existing three-year agreement.

The parties will enter negotiations again next year in order to fix the rate of increase in tariffs for the following years

The Port Authority, Deltalinqs and VRC have fixed rules on how the port dues rate is set each year. The sector is meeting the government’s desire for self-regulation of the tariffs, thanks to structured market consultation, said the port of Rotterdam in its announcement.

Among other things, this consultation takes inflation, market conditions and economic development into account, while the tariffs apply to the seaports of Rotterdam, Schiedam, Vlaardingen, Maassluis, Dordrecht, Papendrecht, Zwijndrecht and Moerdijk.

Port dues are one of the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s two primary sources of income. In particular, the Port Authority of the main Dutch port received €290.2 million (US$356 million) in seaport dues and €14.1 million (US$17.3 million) in inland port dues during 2019. The main source of income for the Port Authority of Rotterdam comes from renting and long-term leasing of sites.[/s2If]
