Rotterdam congestion drives ocean carriers away

Congestion at Rotterdam’s port terminals has forced ocean carriers to adjust their services to avoid delays at the major European hub.

As a result, MSC and CMA CGM have decided to omit Rotterdam from their joint North Europe-Australia service—branded as NEMO and Australia Express, respectively—until at least early June, according to DynaLiners.

After the Rotterdam removal, the service rotation will be as follows:

London (UK) – Hamburg (Germany) – Antwerp (Belgium) – Le Havre (France) – Valencia (Spain) – La Spezia (Italy) – Marseilles (France) – Réunion (France) – Port Louis (Mauritius) – Sydney (Australia) – Melbourne (Australia) – Adelaide (Australia) – Fremantle (Australia) – Singapore (Singapore) – Ennore (India) – Colombo (Sri Lanka) – London (UK)

Ocean Alliance, comprising CMA CGM, COSCO, Evergreen and OOCL, proceeded with a similar move, replacing the port of Rotterdam with the port of Southampton on a service linking European ports with the Far East market.
