RSGT International to operate Djibouti’s Port of Tadjourah

Saudi Arabia’s largest terminal operator and the country’s sole international terminal operating firm Red Sea Gateway Terminal International (RSGTI) and Djibouti’s Port of Tadjourah have formalized an agreement through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for investment, operation, and management of the multipurpose facility strategically positioned at the crossroads of the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea along the East African coast.

The MoU was signed by Kamil Mohamed Gorah, Chairman of the Port of Tadjourah, and Gagan Seksaria, RSGTI Director of Global Investments, during a ceremony overseen by Aboubaker Omar Hadi, Chairman of the Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority.

This partnership aims to enhance Tadjourah Port’s role as a vital gateway for various cargo types, not only serving Djibouti but also strengthening trade routes to Ethiopia’s vast hinterland, thereby supporting regional commerce and economic growth.

Opened in 2017, the Port of Tadjourah was designed to facilitate the export of potash from Ethiopia’s Danakil Depression while also handling general cargo such as coal, steel, liquefied petroleum gas, fertilizer, and agricultural products.

Spanning 400,000 square meters, the port features two berths with a combined length of 485 meters and an alongside depth exceeding 14 meters, as well as a 190-meter Ro/Ro quay with an annual handling capacity of five million tons of general cargo.

Positioned on the northern coast of the Gulf of Tadjourah, the port is linked via a newly developed road to key Ethiopian trade hubs, offering a road distance to Addis Ababa comparable to that of the Port of Djibouti.
