Vostochnaya Stevedoring Company (VSC) has received two new ZPMC rail-mounted gantry (RMG) cranes, which will increase the total capacity of the Russian terminal’s storage yard to 27,000 TEU.
Global Ports, which is the mother company of VSC, said that the new equipment is scheduled to be put into operation in August 2021, increasing the overall productivity of the terminal.
The new cranes will be installed in the areas of the berths No. 5-6, where the modernisation of two container storage yards with a total area of 23,000m² has been being completed.
Additionally, the installation of the new equipment, with a stacking height of 6+1, will double the capacity of the yards from 2,500 to 5,000 TEU.
“The reconstruction of storage yards, creation of universal infrastructure and handling equipment upgrade will increase the capacity and productivity of the terminal, bringing benefits to our customers and allowing us to handle an increased cargo traffic in the Far East of Russia,” commented Ilia Dolgiy, Аcting Managing Director of VSC.
The RMG cranes were delivered to VSC from China on a specialised cargo vessel, DONGBANG GIANT No. 3.
The gantries will be unloaded and transferred to the operating area by the end of June 2021 and once the gantries are on their permanent tracks, ZPMC engineers will start the set up work, due to be completed by the end of the summer.
Global Ports confirmed that the technical work required to set up the new RMGs will not interfere with VSC’s day-to-day operations.
VSC has been operating two similar RMG cranes since January 2021. The equipment has been used at the storage yard in the area of berth 5, where the renovation was completed in 2020.
