SAAM Towage’s first electric tugs arrive at Port of Vancouver

SANMAR Shipyards has delivered SAAM Towage’s first electric tugs to the Port of Vancouver in Canada. These cutting-edge ElectRA 2300SX units, developed in collaboration with Canada’s Robert Allen, are expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2,400 tons annually at full capacity.

Following their arrival, the tugs will undergo necessary preparations with crews and equipment manufacturers. SAAM Towage currently operates a fleet of over 20 tugs across nine ports in British Columbia, serving Canada’s west coast.

Furthermore, renowned as the leading provider of towage services in the Americas and the third largest globally, SAAM Towage manages a fleet of 210 tugs spanning more than 90 ports throughout the Americas. Annually, the company completes over 140,000 manoeuvres for approximately 40,000 vessels, underscoring its significant presence and impact in the maritime industry.
