The Dutch multimodal group Samskip, in cooperation with the transport company Don Trucking, has introduced five new liquefied natural gas (LNG)-operated trucks in its fleet.
In this way, Samskip is creating a greener fleet and hence the company aims to move forward to a more sustainable way of transporting, enabling carbon emissions reduction throughout the entire logistical supply chain.
“Samskip sees the scaled-up use of sustainable fueling alternatives as opening a pathway for shippers seeking to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in their supply chain while transporting cargo by road,” said a Samskip representative.
LNG is the cleanest burning fuel available today, and consequently, LNG-powered trucks are a better alternative than trucks running on fossil fuels, while they meet the “high demands” on performance, fuel efficiency and operating range.
“Moving to a greener solution and reducing carbon emission is a core strategy for Samskip,” said Frédéric Leca, chief operating officer at Samskip.
“Further enhancing the use of LNG in our network is a combination that our customers in regional and long haulage require,” he added.
Hence, this new partnership with Don Trucking is viewed as the first of a range of partnerships to come and to add more LNG-powered trucks to the companies’ fleet.
Samskip’s sustainable shipping options are currently available to all shippers in Europe and the United Kingdom.
