Saudi Ports boost container volumes in October

Container throughput across the ports in Saudi Arabia continued its upward year-on-year movement during October 2022, soaring to 694,517 TEUs, translating to an increase of 15.33%.

Looking at the numbers for the previous month, there is a 17.75% growth in exported boxes to 202,030 TEUs compared to 2021. Similarly, imported containers increased by 23.02% to 214,174 TEUs while transhipments increased by 8.49% to 278,313 TEUs.

Additionally, this year cargo throughput witnessed a 3.34% spike, to more than 26.7 million tons. The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) reported a significant growth in the majority of cargo sectors, with general cargo increasing by 85.51% to 938,390 tons and dry bulk cargo surging to 4,942,911 tons with a year-on-year rise of 20.89%.

However, liquid bulk cargo plunged by 6.81% to 13,638,345 tons.

Moreover, October’s statistics show that 1,411 vessels called at Saudi ports, which represents a 28.04% increase. At the same time, imported vehicles shot up by 69.41% to 92,998 units whereas passenger traffic amounted to 44,268 passengers.
