Saudi Ports handled 593,853 TEU in April, according to Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI), while export containers increased slightly by 1.8%, compared to April 2021, reaching 175,015 TEU, and import boxes climbed 13.4% to 199,889 TEU.
On the other hand, the transshipment sector decreased significantly by 17.3%, falling to 218,949 TEU.
Meanwhile, MAWANI achieved a 24.28% growth in terms of tonnes, as a total of 20,467,760 tonnes of cargo passed through Saudi ports in April.
“This increase is in line with Mawani’s development plans aimed to improve the efficiency of customer service, as well as the transformation of maritime transport and logistics in Saudi Arabia,” commented Saudi Ports Authority in a statement.
Mawani’s corporate strategy aims to increase the ranking of Saudi ports in the Logistics Performance Index, expand container throughput capacity, and strengthen Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub, according to the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy as well as Saudi Vision 2030.
