Saudi Ports Authority sees box volume increase in March

Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) handled a total of 865,000 TEU in March, recording a 2.5% increase in container volumes over the same month of the previous year.

The number of container transshipment also grew by 17% year-on-year in March, reaching 503,000 TEU, according to Mawani’s data.

During the same period, the total cargo throughput of Saudi Arabian Ports totalled 25 million tons, representing a marginal rise of 0.09% compared to the previous March.

Meanwhile, the number of vessels calling at Saudi Ports was 1,091, which translates to a decrease of 1.27% compared to March 2021.

Mawani said that its aim is to develop a “sustainable and prosperous maritime transport sector” and achieve its socioeconomic ambitions by implementing its corporate strategy objectives, which contribute to reinforcing Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub.
