SC Ports reports record box volumes in September

South Carolina Ports (SC Ports) maintained fluidity for vessels calling the East Coast while handling a record number of containers in September.

According to the port data, SC Ports handled 226,807 TEUs at Wando Welch Terminal, North Charleston Terminal and Leatherman Terminal in September, up nearly 11% year-over-year, translating to 124,963 pier containers, up 10% year-over-year.

SC Ports has also handled 666,315 TEUs thus far in the fiscal year 2023, which started in July 2022, and handled 367,846 pier containers fiscal year-to-date.

“Τhis growth is driven by consumer demand, loaded imports were up 16% year-over-year,” commented SC Ports in a statement.

In order to provide fast service to vessels, SC Ports has opened a fast lane for vessels with 1,000 movements or less, while it also offers a seven-day export receiving window that locks 11 days before a vessel’s arrival.
