Scandinavian port operator enters joins TradeLens

Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP), a joint port operator for the Danish and Swedish ports, has initiated a collaboration with TradeLens, a digital platform developed by A.P. Moller – Maersk and IBM.

The platform is based on blockchain technology and brings together port and terminal operators, shipping lines, intermodal transportation service providers and other actors in the global supply chain with the goal of accelerating the digitalisation of data and documentation.

“We are constantly working to further develop the port’s digital DNA as a tool to promote intelligent logistics solutions,” stated Povl Dolleris Røjkjær Ungar, CMP COO.

He also highlighted the need of the Danish port to participate in TradeLens, which offers a platform that “enables, via innovative blockchain technology, a more secure and transparent co-operation in the logistics chain” and gives advantages to all stakeholders by optimising traditional workflows.

TradeLens facilitates flexible and secure sharing of information, including data, between the various stages of the logistics chain. Specifically, manual and time-consuming administrative workflows are replaced by digital solutions, something which naturally enhances the collaboration and from start to finish reduces the complex processes that take place in the logistics chain.

TradeLens currently includes over 130 direct connections to ports and terminals and is an “industry-wide neutral platform aiming to transform a complex container logistics industry,” according to Lars Kastrup, head of sales for TradeLens at Maersk.

“The expansion and scale of our digital ecosystem is the foundation for driving benefits for all on the platform,” he commented.
