Seaspan acquires two post-panamax vessels backed by liner charters

Seaspan Corporation has entered into an agreement to acquire two 8,500TEU scrubber-fitted containerships which are already assigned to a long-term charter with an undisclosed liner operator.

[s2If is_user_logged_in()]The vessels are anticipated to be delivered during the second quarter of the year and are expected to be financed from additional borrowings as well as cash in hand.

Bing Chen, chairman, president and CEO of Seaspan, highlighted that the company “continues to develop the win-win solution to our global liner customer to facilitate their business successes in the face of tight supply market dynamics.”

Beginning in December 2020, and along with the latest two vessels announced, Seaspan’s parent company the Atlas Corporation has confirmed the addition of a total of 597,000TEU representing 41 vessels, including 37 newbuildings, and the acquisition of four vessels in the secondhand markets, increasing its total capacity to 1.67 million TEU, on a fully delivered basis.
