Shenzhen port’s container throughput rise by 11% in 2021

The container throughput of Shenzhen port reached 23.788 million TEU during January -October period this year, a 10.7% rise year-on-year.

Out of the total volume, foreign trade container throughput was 21.992 million TEU, a year-on-year increase of 11.3%.

During the period the port handled vessels of 62 international container liner routes.

The port’s empty container handlings reached 7.357 million TEU, an increase of 18% year-on-year, during the period.

Shenzhen’s transportation department carried out measures for prevention and control of epidemic since the beginning of the year which helped sea and air cargo logistics continue to grow supporting the development of Shenzhen’s export-oriented economy.

Officials said the effect of the epidemic has caused a significant rise in turnover time of shipping resulting in a shortage of shipping capacity and causing a serious imbalance of supply and demand in the global shipping industry.

Thus, the Shenzhen transportation department has effectively coordinated liner companies to ensure a guarantee for foreign trade space and to reserve adequate space for Shenzhen Port.

According to officials, that helped to increase transportation of foreign trade and provide cargo owners with as much space as possible.

The Ministry of Transport of China recently formulated and issued the “Fourteenth Five-Year Development Plan for Comprehensive Transportation Services” to set the goals, tasks and advancements for the development of comprehensive transportation services in the future.

The plan reveals that promoting the development of comprehensive transportation services and improving quality and efficiency are the essential requirements and fundamental goals of the construction of a modern comprehensive transportation system.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period China achieved significant progress in the development of comprehensive transportation services.

In this period, according to Wang Yang, deputy minister of the Ministry of Transport, the volume of containerized iron-water combined transportation has increased by 23.8% annually.
