South Carolina Ports (SC Ports) set a new container record in 2022 by handling the largest number of boxes ever at the Port of Charleston.
In 2022, SC Ports handled almost 2.8 million TEUs, translating to a 1.5% increase over 2021, and carried more than 1.5 million pier containers, representing a 1% growth over 2021.
Furthermore, in the previous year, SC Ports transported 199,343 automobiles through the docks of Columbus Street Terminal, linking South Carolina’s automakers with worldwide consumers.
“South Carolina’s excellent port team and maritime community efficiently handled record cargo volumes and expertly navigated supply chain challenges to keep freight moving for our customers,” stated Barbara Melvin, president and CEO of SC Ports.
In 2022, Inland Port Greer and Inland Port Dillon reported a total of 167,147 rail moves, allowing more enterprises in Southeast Europe to swiftly transfer products to and from the port of Charleston through rail.
