Spanish government approves construction tender for electrical substation at Port of Valencia

Spain’s Council of Ministers, upon recommendation from Spain’s Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, approved the tender for the construction of a new electrical substation in the Port of València, with an estimated value of US$15.7 million.

This contract marks the implementation of the first substation of its kind in the Port of València, facilitating the integration of the Port Authority’s power supply network with the high-voltage distribution network, particularly at the 132 kV voltage level.

The 132/20kv substation will ensure optimum conditions for supplying electrical energy to the Port of València, meeting increased consumption requirements resulting from plans to provide electrical supply to docked ships. This effort aims to reduce atmospheric emissions and noise pollution in the port.

By accommodating the growing demand for electrical energy and supporting renewable energy generation, such as solar photovoltaic, the substation will play a crucial role in meeting new energy requirements. This aligns with the Port Authority of València’s goal of achieving zero emissions by 2030.

The European Commission is backing the construction of this new electrical substation through the CEF (Connecting Europe Facility) program.
