Ports of Stockholm has announced a warehouse construction with spacious capacity at Sweden’s new mega-port, Stockholm Norvik Port, in which the ro-ro terminal opened in November and provides ample space for cargo volume growth and customer expansion.
The new Stockholm Norvik facility expands Ports of Stockholm’s business operations at a period the demand for storage space has increased. A new high-capacity transhipment warehouse is now ready to handle the transfer of cargo from one form of transport to another. With over 3,800m2 and a ceiling height of 11m, import- and export cargo can be unloaded or stored before onward shipment in this ample-capacity warehouse.
Nicklas Ebersson, marketing manager cargo at Ports of Stockholm, commented that “During the spring of 2021 Stena Line will switch to two larger and more modern ro-pax vessels.”
Ro-ro services between Sweden and Latvia have relocated from the Port of Nynäshamn to Stockholm Norvik Port.
Cargo previously imported has predominantly been building materials such as timber sheets and plasterboard, as well as steel structures, which have been handled in a smaller warehouse.
The Stockholm Norvik terminal now has the prerequisites to handle more cargo exports. In the newly built warehouse, for example, pulp being transported from central Sweden will be able to be transferred to other forms of transport.
In addition to the storage warehouse, Ports of Stockholm has built five major buildings at that will house authorities such as Swedish Customs and the Swedish National Food Agency, and shipping companies operating at the port.
