STS crane partially collapsed in the Helsinki port

Representatives from the port of Helsinki and Konecranes have confirmed that there has been a partial collapse of a ship to shore (STS) crane within the Vuosaari harbour in the Finland capital’s port.

The incident in Helsinki occurred earlier in July, when a crane by the Finnish manufacturer, Konecranes, has tilted during operation.

The operator of the crane suffered a hand wound and was taken to hospital, according to Konecranes spokeswoman.

“The surrounding area of the crane has been isolated and secured, and we are currently investigating the matter,” she told Container News.

The machine that collapsed onto the quay of the port on 2 July is a large widespan STS crane that was delivered to the Port of Helsinki in 2019.
