Australian authorities search for 42 lost containers

A search to locate 42 sunken shipping containers to ensure safe paths for fishing trawlers has resumed near Newcastle.

The YM Efficiency, a Taiwan-operated, Liberian-flagged cargo ship, lost 81 containers and had another 62 damaged during rough weather about 30km east of Newcastle on June 1.

An initial search in late June and July was able to locate less than half of the lost load.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority said on Wednesday that a second search for the remaining 42 containers recommenced on Friday.
